Micro RC Helicopter
Beginner Skill Level: The hottest new item this year is the Micro RC Helicopter. This has got to be the most fun I have had flying RC in a long time! Made of ultra lightweight EPP foam, the Micro RC Helicopter runs on a tiny LiPo battery and gets it's signal from the transmitter via infra-red technology.
From what I have seen and sold so far, there are two models available that look almost identical, which leads me to believe that they are made at the same manufacturing facility in China.Although I will say, and my opinion has also been reiterated in the
RC Groups Forum
that the one that is considered to be the "knock-off" is actually a more stable heli and has a longer flight time! The two models available are the Picco Z from Silverlit and the Xtreme Micro Copter. I personally keep the Xtreme Micro Copter on my desk and charge it every morning. Then, when I need to stretch from sitting in front of the computer, I turn on the transmitter, slide the tiny on/off switch down on the side of the fuselage, and up it goes.
Micro RC Helicopter Tips:
1. Get the
Xtreme Micro Copter
- more stable and lasts longer. It's a little bit more expensive but it's worth spending the few extra dollars. This is the second generation version that has been upgraded to perform better than the more popular versions now available.2. When it goes up, it will spin aggresively to the right. Simply click on the left trim rocker switch ( I do it about 20 times quickly) and you'll have an incredibly stable bird. 3. Once you get the hang of it, put a very light weight on the nose so the micro rc helicopter has some forward pitch. I simply stuck a small paper clip in. Not pretty but it does the job! 4. Feather the throttle and don't get too close to the ceiling otherwise it'll stick up there since it is creating a vacuum effect by not having any air available above it to thrust down ...yes, this comes from experience ;) 5. Only fly indoors. since it transmits with infra-red, sunlight can interfere with the signal. 6. When you think you're getting really good, try flying in figure eights, or start to pick destinations within the room. 6. Have some fun!
